In today's world where automatic transmission trucks have not yet fully popularized, shifting gears is a frequent action during truck driving, requiring drivers to frequently change gears to adapt to different road conditions. If the design and selection of the shifting control system are unreasonable, it can lead to unsmooth shifting operations, directly affecting the driver's operating experience.
The commonly seen shifting mechanism systems in the country are mainly divided into two types: cable soft shaft type and lever type. Each of these two shifting mechanism systems has its own advantages and disadvantages. Below, I will briefly introduce the characteristics of the cable soft shaft type and lever type mechanisms for truck drivers.
● Lever Type Shifting: Clear Gears and Good Feel
The lever type shifting mechanism mostly uses hollow rods as the main force transmission components, requiring the hollow rods to connect and transmit travel and torque. Connections between sections need to be realized using supports, sliding sleeves, and universal joints. Its advantages include a longer service life and minimal environmental constraints, making it well-suited for dusty and colder regions, which is highly praised by drivers.
Due to the large space occupied by the lever type shifting mechanism, there can be certain difficulties in the layout of the chassis under the driver's cabin. Additionally, during use, the ball joint connected by the lever will continuously wear, gradually increasing the gap, which over time will affect the shifting experience. Therefore, the ball joint of the lever type shifting mechanism needs to be replaced regularly.
● Soft Shaft Type: Low Cost and Convenient for Vehicle Design Layout
The main difference between the soft shaft control system and the hard rod control system is that it uses a soft shaft as the medium for transmitting travel and torque. The system generally consists of two soft shafts, one for gear selection and the other for gear shifting. The characteristics of the soft shaft include lower manufacturing costs and smaller space occupation, and its flexibility facilitates the layout between the driver's cabin and the chassis.
The cable soft shaft type shifting mechanism is most often criticized by truck drivers for becoming unusually heavy during use due to dust entering between the cable and the bushing, making gear shifting less smooth. Therefore, regular replacement is needed when used in dusty conditions.
What issues should be considered when selecting materials for hardware stamping parts?
In the variety of steel plate specifications, whether it is a fixed-size plate or a coil plate, the sales price varies with different coil widths for materials of the same type and thickness. Therefore, to reduce costs, efforts should be made in determining the coil width during procurement, aiming to select a coil width range that does not incur additional charges while ensuring material utilization. For fixed-size plates, it is advisable to choose suitable specifications so that after cutting by the steel mill, no secondary cutting is required, thus reducing cutting costs; for coil plates, it is best to select specifications and processes for uncoiling that minimize the workload of secondary cutting and improve work efficiency.
